In 1884 Leon Breitling founded his company, specialising in the manufacture of chronographs and precision counters for scientific and industrial purposes. His son was later to create the first wristwatch chronograph in 1914, subsequently providing pilots with their first wrist instrument.

Throughout its long history Breitling have achieved many things, not least the fact that EVERY Breitling watch carries the much sought after title of 'Chronometres'. A Chronometer is a high precision watch that has successfully undergone all the rigorous Tests by the COSC (Swiss Official Chronometer Testing Institute) This is an independent Body which test every movement and if all the necessary criteria are met they will issue This prized certificate.
